Meet The Team
Scott Averill and his wife, Susan, are the owners of Wellsville Retirement Community and Brookside Health & Rehab in Overbrook, Kansas. Scott is a licensed long term care administrator, a Certified Medication Aide and a Certified Nurse Assistant. He is also certified in Validation which is a state-of-the-art approach to working with people who have dementia. He and Susan live their commitment to making their communities great places to work, live and visit. They are proud to say: “We are family owned AND operated!” They have 5 grown children all of whom have worked or are currently working at one of their communities: Bryan, Nathan, MaKaila, Alec and Ciara. They also are the proud grandparents of 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. In the last several years Scott has pedaled his bicycle across the United States twice! He also has run a marathon in 27 states and plans to run one in all 50 states BEFORE he turns 70 in 2025!!
Susan's experience as a state champion volleyball coach serves her well at Brookside Health & Rehab and Wellsville Retirement Community. Susan was always pushing her players to be the best that they could be, often getting more from them then they themselves believed possible. She modeled to her team that integrity, discipline and hard work pay off. Her players learned to trust, support, uplift and encourage one another in the rough places challenges took them. With her guidance, they soon discovered that to succeed, they must work as a cohesive whole.
Susan and husband, Scott, have four children: Bryan, Nathan, MaKaila and Alec. Nathan, who also works at BRC and WRC calls his mom “a compassionate, straight-shooter who has the forthrightness to confront nonsense when needed.” Susan, along with Scott and his father, Chuck, own two nursing homes, BRC and WRC. 24-7 they energize and inspire co-workers to advance our ongoing mission: to make these two nursing homes great places to work and live. With regards to achieving the highest possible customer service excellence standards, our team motto is that there is no top to the mountain we climb together.
Allison joined the Brookside family in August of 2016. She has been a licensed nurse since 2009 starting in family medicine. She was an ER nurse for several years before making the switch to long term care management that was prompted by a move to SW Kansas for her husband’s job. She enjoys being able to make a difference in the lives of our residents and loves building relationships with them. She takes pride in her work and was successful at improving her last facility in the areas of: state survey results, star rating, resident and staff satisfaction and retention of staff.
She is a mother of four children who keep her very busy: Abbagail-10, Andrew-6, Maddison-4 and Austin-2.5. She doesn’t have much spare time, but when she does she enjoys crafting, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends and doing spur of the moment activities. She feels blessed and honored to be part of the Brookside family.
Denise grew up in Overbrook and considers it a great privilege to assist our elders and their families in the small town she calls home. She has the joy to have a great family, her husband Don, of 24 years, three children and five grandchildren. Denise focuses most of her work on the Medicaid and Medicare billing side of things and assists families with the Medicaid process. She states that it gives her great personal satisfaction when she can assist a resident and their families with billing issues and know that she is helping to secure quality care for someone in need.
