WELCOME

We are excited to welcome you to Brookside Health & Rehab's website! Located in the rural community of Overbrook, Kansas, the values and stability of a small town help to make our retirement community special.  Our location is quiet and peaceful, yet we are still within minutes of Topeka and Lawrence and the activities they offer.

We invite you to visit us in our quiet, rural setting to see for yourself how Brookside can provide peace of mind to those seeking a quality place to call home. At Brookside, we are absolutely committed to extraordinary service. We always welcome feedback as we continually strive to improve the quality of life we provide the residents of Brookside Health & Rehab.

Brookside is family owned and operated. Overbrook residents, Scott and Susan Averill (left), with help from Scott’s late father, Chuck Averill (right), purchased Brookside from a Topeka firm in 2004. Get to know them better here.

With warm regards,

Scott & Susan Averill, Owners

OUR HISTORY

With six local investors and the other half of the investors from Topeka, Brookside Manor was built in 1965. After the second year, Max Friesen (1st photo) and Dr. Ruble (2nd photo) and the other local investors bought out the Topeka ownership and kept it under local ownership. Max and Dr. Ruble then bought out the shares of the other local investors through the years as they retired. They owned it, with Cliff Fisher (3rd photo) as administrator, and Brookside enjoyed high operating status, being recommended from as far as California as the best nursing home in the state of Kansas. We, at Brookside today, deeply appreciate Dr. Ruble’s vision and great commitment to elders which made Brookside’s care possible for hundreds of residents since 1965.

ABOUT US

The goal of Brookside Health & Rehab is to provide not only a high quality of care for the residents and patrons that we serve, but also to provide a great quality of life, while allowing our residents to maintain their dignity.  We have a full calendar of activities with something for everyone each month.

Brookside provides many different levels of care. Our assisted living community, located on the same campus, is comprised of studio apartments, studio deluxe apartments and one bedroom apartments with a small patio. Also located in the assisted living building are independent living studio apartments. Across the parking lot, our main campus also provides skilled nursing services for individuals needing more assistance or provides a perfect place for a rehabilitation stay.

Brookside is fortunate to have our own in-house therapy team which can provide both in-patient and out-patient therapy services. Our services contract with many insurance companies. If you are in need of therapy services, please call to inquire about the services we have available. We can do short rehab stays to assist in getting a person safely back into their home. Please do not hesitate to call 785-665-7124 and inquire, we can do the same therapy as the ‘fancy rehab centers’ with a personal local touch.

DON'T OVERLOOK OVERBROOK
(Overbrook Citizen, June 18, 1914)

Out here this way you sure will look,
For Overbrook is fine-
Commercial Club of Overbrook
Is where to grab a line.

The line is in the center of
The Garden of the West;
The people in this land do love
To always do their best.

In Kansas land is where we are,
The Eden of the new,
They travel here by train and car,
This country for to view.

One view they take and then unpack,
For then with us they stay;
No country then can get them back,
For they won’t move away.

This land out here will sure grow then,
Fine cattle, hogs and corn,
The cackle of the Kansas hen
Is heard from morn to morn.

At our fine boys and girls you look,
While you come on your way;
Don’t overlook our Overbrook,
Just stop with us and stay.

“Dear Brookside Friends, My heart is touched. It meant so very much. Thank you for good care you gave Delbert, while he lived at Brookside. He made many friends and he enjoyed the parties and the bus trips very much. You made his final days so happy. Thank you all.”
